I’m sure this has been your experience too, but every time God has made a major change I have lost supporters that I thought would always be there, but picked up surprising new ones in whom God has placed a similar calling. At first, it really bugged me, but then God showed me that I too have many times abandoned others when they changed direction. We are finite & so are they. Callings change. You have to give people an exit strategy when your new calling isn’t theirs too. Forgive & you will forgiven.
